Considering the Marble Trend?
From clothing to interior design, trends seem to come and go rather quickly. A trend that seems to be occuring in the natural stone industry right now is the increased interest in marble countertops for the kitchen.
I was recently reading an article in Stone Business magazine, “The New
Love In Vein?”, which discusses the increased interest in marble kitchen countertops. Along with the increased interest, must come increased education about the characteristics and maintenance of marble.
Here, at PGC, we have also experienced an increase in the number of customer’s that are interested in marble kitchen countertops. While marble is a very elegant, classy, and a timeless look, there are some things to keep in mind when contemplating selecting marble for your kitchen countertops:
1. Marble is more susceptible to staining than granite. It would not be a good idea to leave cooking oil, or wine on your marble for too long, as it could take on a stain.
2. Marble is more susceptible to scratching, whereas, you are able to cut directly on your granite countertops without worry…except for the eventual dulling of your knives.
3. Marble is a softer material than granite, in other words, not as durable.
The key to any purchasing decision is educating yourself about the product. Weigh your options, see which is the best fit for you and your lifestyle, and proceed with the peace of mind knowing that you are educated on the pros and cons.

Angie’s Blog was somewhat confusing. I dont know whether she supports Marble Kitchen tops or against it. You cannot deny that Granite is durable, but in the case of Marble, you cannot say so. I dont think Marble Products retains its gloss for a longer time. If this is the case, people have already started thinking Why Marble?

Thanks for your comments and feedback. I think that people should be aware of the pros and cons before making their decision on any large purchase, so is true in the case of granite vs. marble countertops as well. It is a personal preference that an individual will have to make. I was just stating some of the characteristics of marble that might help those who are considering marble for the kitchen make their final decision. Educating the consumer!
