Stay Productive With To-Do Lists!

I don’t know about you, but I am one on those people that likes lists. They not only help me stay organized, but I just seem to get way more accomplished when I write things down. Right now, we are in the process of moving, and I don’t know what I’d do without my lists. The process of moving can feel overwhelming at times, but by writing tasks down to complete, I at least feel that I’m making progress and getting somewhere.

Like many others, I use to-do lists both at work and at home to help me keep track of projects and tasks that need to get completed. Some people however, feel trapped by lists because they always feel like there is something that has to be done. (e.g. When I get this done, I can do that.) According to When To-Do Lists Take Over, an article found in the April/May 2007 issue of Body + Soul magazine, “It’s a common but deadly trap in which we use to-do lists to put off the present and focus, instead, on the future — either waiting for it to begin or hurrying to get there. We instead need to think of lists as tools by which you learn to live each moment.” Often it is a better idea to write down just those things that can be accomplished in a day.

Barb your Blog today was a snap shot of my daily life. I’m a stay at home mom from Lake Crystal. I grew up in a family of 10 with 6 brothers, 1 other sister and my parents Herbert and Marcy. My husband owns JXF Trucking headquartered out of Blue Earth and we have 4 children of our own. My life consists of lists, lists and more lists. Even a simple trip to bank requires a list. My daughter, Suzie asks, why I create so many lists. I always tell her that her mommy is forgetful. Even though it might be the Mary Jane from the 70’s. (LOL). I don’t know how my mother ever kept everything staight. Society is more complex today than ever before. Just last weekend I was remembering when Sunday’s consisted of spending time as a family, reflecting on the past week and week ahead. Maybe we need to slow down, relax and enjoy our time instead of running the kids to band camps, 4H or to a friends house to play. Slow down everyone and enjoy the ride.

    Maggie:

I appreciate your comments. Yeah-lists are great, but we also need to just try and focus on one day at a time and try and enjoy it!

    Thanks!
