2008 Fall Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase

This past weekend Brad, our sales representative, and I, had the opportunity to volunteer at a couple of our associates Remodelers Showcase homes for the Fall Parade. It was a beautiful Fall weekend to be out touring these homes to get some ideas and information regarding upcoming remodeling projects.

The home that I helped staff was an Otogawa-Anschel Design + Build project. It was located in the Kenwood neighborhood of Minneapolis. The home featured several green building elements including, 100% remnant granite and marble countertops, a geothermal heating and cooling system, triple pane windows, and four 55 gallon rain barrels that provide water for plants and the grass. It was an absolutely stunning remodel, with the environment taking a top priority.

The home Brad staffed, was a 1934 home in Roseville, MN, remodeled by J.W. Williams Construction. The remodel featured a dream kitchen, including a 4′ x 6′ granite baking island and 10-seat granite peninsula, opening into an airy great room. Another beautiful remodel that is well suited for the homeowner’s family and entertaining needs.

Please see some photos of both project below.

Feel free to share…

Recipe: Pumpkin Bread

It is funny how you tend to crave certain foods at certain times of the year. Lately, I’ve been wanting something with pumpkin, and pumpkin bread just sounded good to me. Here’s  a recipe I came across that I wanted to share. I am going to try it this weekend. Oh…and I will definitely be adding the chocolate chips!

Pumpkin Bread
Makes approximately 12 muffins, 3 small loaves, or 1 large loaf
1 3/4 cup (1 15 oz. can) pureed pumpkin
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
3 eggs
3 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups chopped walnuts or chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350.

Combine the pumpkin, brown sugar, butter, and eggs and mix until creamy. In a separate bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients, except the nuts, or chocolate chips. Mix 3 cups of the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, then add as much of the 4th cup as necessary to achieve the proper consistency (moist, but thick enough to stand a spoon in). Add the nuts, or chocolate chips and stir in.

Spoon the batter into greased muffin tins, or bread pans. Bake on the center rack, until a toothpick poked into the center comes out dry, 25 to 30 minutes for muffins, or small loaves, or 50 minutes to 1 hour for a full size loaf.

Enjoy!

Recipe: Spudini Bread

Here’s a recipe I got from my sister in-law that works as a great appetizer, or side for any meal. It is easy to make and very good.

Spudini Bread

2-3 cloves garlic
1 cup butter room temperature
1-1/4 Tbsp. dry basil
2 Tbsp. capers
1 loaf crusty Italian bread
1 package sliced mozzarella, or provolone cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Chop garlic. Mix together garlic, butter, basil, and capers. Slice bread in 3/4″ slices, not all the way through, leave bottom crust connected.

Spread each side with butter spread. Place a piece of the cheese between each slice. Brush top and side of bread with butter spread. Wrap in foil. Bake 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is melted throughout. Open foil, and brown under broiler.

Enjoy!
