Granite Countertops—Spotlight On Overhangs
While many customers visit our showroom to select a color for their granite countertops, they do not always realize that there are other material options that need to be made as well. At PGC, our Customer Service staff will ask questions in regards to edge selections, finish choices, backsplash options, as well as overhangs.
We often get asked the question, “How much of an overhang should my island have?” While there is no standard answer to that question, we do not recommend an overhang larger than 12″ without some sort of additional support, in most circumstances. There may be limitations on overhang sizes based on the room size, cabinetry, etc., but by providing base cabinet dimensions, we can help determine your overhang sizes.
At PGC, we typically will add an 1-1/2″ overhang to the front of any countertop surface, including kitchen countertop, bathroom vanity, bar top, etc., and add 1″ to any open ends. This may be modified however, based on your needs, or cabinetry design.
If you have further questions in regards to overhangs, our measuring technician can assist you at the time of measure.
