Granite Countertops—Spotlight On Furniture Tops
When it comes to remodeling your home, material selections play a big part in the overall look and outcome. It is no wonder that granite is often the material of choice for countertops, for many consumers. Over the years, granite countertops have become a popular choice because of their time-less beauty, and durability.
These days, consumers are not only anxious to add granite countertops to a kitchen addition, or a granite bar top to a basement remodel, but are also interested in adding granite furniture tops to accent other areas of their home.
Many consumers are incorporating granite for office desks and work areas and…why not? They are easy to clean and maintain. Many home offices are also located right off the kitchen, so it makes sense to flow a certain look from room to room.
Another popular spot for granite furniture is the dining room. Many dining rooms are also located right off the kitchen, or near by, so why not add an elegant granite dining room table to accent your look?
How about a granite coffee table for your great room, or some granite end tables to your living room? Oh—and don’t forget your deck! A granite table top is a great addition for those summer parties and get togethers. No matter what room you are looking to update, you can’t go wrong by adding granite!
If you have questions in regards to granite furniture tops, or granite countertops, please give us a call, or stop by our showroom. We’d be glad to answer your questions, and help with your color selections.

Melting into Spring…
Being a Minnesotan for my entire life, I know I should not get too excited that Spring officially arrives on March 20th. As many other Minnesotans know, March is often times the snowiest month of the year! This year, I am more geared up for the season change than ever. It has been a LONG, cold, snowy winter (it didn’t help that I had a run in with a snow/ice bank a few weeks back).
This past week I saw some definite signs that Spring is just around the corner. I was outside of our showroom and there was a beautiful display of icicles melting. Icicles are formed when the air temperature is at or near freezing, while the warm sun melts snow and ice. As it drips from the roof, the water droplets freeze, as they lose heat to the cold air.
Before the guys pulled them down from the roof, I took some pictures. Please take a look at them below.

Check out some additional photos of icicles that I thought were beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the last few days of winter (keep your fingers crossed)!!

Consider Adding Granite Backsplash When Purchasing A Granite Kitchen!
When remodeling a kitchen, there are many decisions to take into consideration. While material selection and color are among the most important decisions to make, backsplash options are sometimes overlooked.
There are several options when it comes to backsplash including:
- 3-1/2″ to 4″ high
- Full Height backsplash
- Tile
- Combination (Tile with 3-1/2″ to 4″ high, or Full Height with 3-1/2″ to 4″ high, etc.)
Over the years, having a 3-1/2″ to 4″ high has been very popular because it gives a nice look, and allows for easy clean-up with spills and splatters. The combination option, and full height option are also popular and good choices, because they offer a unique look, and again, allow for easy clean-up with spills and splatters. If you choose tile alone, keep in mind that spills and splatters are harder to clean up and may get into the grout joints causing discoloration over time.
If you have any questions in regards to backsplash options for your kitchen, please keep give us a call, or visit our showroom. We’d be happy to assist you.

Top 10 Health Hoaxes in 2008 include Radioactive Granite Countertops
By now, many consumers are aware of the scare that went around last year about radioactive granite countertops. While the scare did cause some commotion and confusion, it turns out that story was actually a hoax. In fact, according to the article, Radioactive Granite In Countertops Named One of the Top 10 Health Story Hoaxes of 2008, published in the February 2008 issue of The Cutting Edge newsletter published by the MIA, “That story’s one of 10 health stories from 2008 identified as ‘hoaxes’ by the American Council of Science and Health, a nonprofit group of scientists and physicians that advocates a common-sense approach to maintaining good health.”
The ACSH maintains that any claims regarding health and products must be supported with sound science, and preferrably be found in published peer-reviewed journals. The bottom line is that you can’t believe everything that you hear. According to Gilbert Ross, ACSH’s medical/executive, “unfortunately, a lot of health claims are based on ideology, or agenda and are just trying to to scare people.”
If you would like more information on granite and radon, please give us a call. We’d be happy to answer your questions.

2009 Minneapolis Home & Garden Show
This was PGC’s inaugural year at the Minneapolis Home & Garden Show, as well as the show’s 75th year. The show ran from Wednesday, March 4th – Sunday, March 8th, and it was a great success. We displayed a piece of Golden Noir granite that was a show stopper. I cannot tell you how many people stopped by our booth just to admire it and jot down the name.
Below are some photos from the show:
