Granite Blocks To Granite Countertops
We often hear customers in our showroom ask the question, “How is granite quarried?” While some customers may have an idea, others are often surprised and intrigued by the process.
Granite is extracted from quarries around the world using a variety of tools including high-speed drills, shims, and explosives. Diamond studded cutting systems have also become popular, which have drastically reduced the time consuming process. Large blocks of granite are taken from the ground in huge blocks weighing as much as ten tons.
Following is a photo of a granite block being transported to then be cut/ sliced into slabs for granite countertops:

Once the block is cut into slabs, the slabs are then polished by huge polishing machines and then made ready to deliver to suppliers and then fabricators. If you have more questions on the quarrying process, make sure you watch from the quarry to the kitchen, a video produced by the MIA.
