Add Value To Your Sales Visits…
Today more than ever, it is important to stress value when selling. While anyone can offer a cheap price, it is important to differentiate yourself from the competition, and having a good sales staff can play a huge role in the whole process. In fact, “a salesperson’s skill can add as much as 50 percent to the perceived value of any product or service,” that according to “How To Add Value To Every Sales Call,” an article found in the March/April 2010 issue of Selling Power magazine.
That’s huge! That’s why many companies are stringent about hiring qualified individuals, and are willing to pay more for those that can perform. Many companies also carefully groom their sales staff and offer extensive training for them.
“Everything you do is either increasing your perceived value, or detracting from it.” Following are 10 Ways To Increase Your “Perceived Value” rating from the article I wanted to share:
- Be well dressed. It is important to dress neat, and clean. Remember, perception is everything.
- Invest in expensive or good quality accessories. Again, perception! (e.g. a nice pen, briefcase, watch, etc.)
- Have a neat, wll-groomed appearance. Customers will appreciate your attention to detail.
- Practice impeccable manners, politeness, and courtesy. Alwasys try to put your best self forward.
- Never knock the competition. You decrease your own value by doing so.
- Be on time and deliver everything you promise. You are building your reputation.
- Never argue with customers. They may not always be right, but they are always the customer.
- Look for opportunities to so something extra. Small gestures can go a long way and can be very meaningful.
- Plan and prepare each appointment in advance. Organization is key and always promotes a professional image.
- Write thank you notes to each new customer, or prospect. It doesn’t cost anything to say thank you and people appreciate it.

2010 Builders Product & Service Show…
The 2010 Builders Product & Service show, although a little smaller than some previous years, didn’t stop PGC from having a booth and participating in the event. Although attendance was down somewhat, we were able to speak with various builders and remodelers and enjoyed the camaraderie.
The event was sponsored through BATC, Builders Association of the Twin Cities, and was held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The PGC booth was staffed by several of our team members, and included a variety of our product samples, as well as a granite slab, which was a good draw for customers.

Sneak Peek At Target Field…
Over the weekend, Chris and I had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the new Target Field. An Open House was held Saturday, March 20th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for all season ticket holders. While the weather was a bit chilly, that didn’t stop fans from checking out their seats, and exploring the new stadium, restaurants, club spaces, and hospitality areas.
While Chris was excited to sit in his seat, and check out the 3rd base view, I was excited the seats were in the sun, (at least that day). We are both anticipating the pre-season opener, which is Friday, April 2nd, and of course the Season Opener, which is Monday, April 12th. Hope you get a chance to see the Twins at their new home.
Let’s Go Twins!

Go Green For St. Patrick’s Day!
While “Going Green” has become a popular slogan these days, it is especially popular on St. Patrick’s Day! The holiday is not only celebrated by the irish, but the “irish at heart.” Many cities and towns celebrate with parades, and irish festivals, while many restaurants and bars join in offering irish food and drinks.
At PGC, we are celebrating St. Patrick’s by offering Tropical Green as our Color of the Month! Check out our Promotions/Specials, or stop by our showroom to view other colors, or popular greens for your project. We are happy to help.

Granite Countertops—Educate Yourself Upfront!
These days, competition is tough for the granite countertop market. What makes it even more frustrating is that the general consumer is uneducated as to what to look for in a fabricator. While many consumers are looking for a cheap price, they must keep in mind the old adage, “You get what you pay for!” There are definitely fabricators out there that will practically give their granite away but… Will they stand behind their product? Will they be there for you if there is some sort of problem?
The other week, we had the opportunity to display our products at the Minneapolis Home & Garden show and help promote the natural stone industry. While there were also a number other fabricators who particpated in the event, you must keep in mind, that they are not all the same. Another old adage, “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover!” While you would think that any business participating in a Home & Garden show would be a reputable one…think again! There was actually a fabricator participating in the event that had an “F” rating by the Better Business Bureau. Yikes!
So people, do your homework. Would rather pay a little more for quality workmanship, and ethics, or save a few bucks and settle for something that is marginally acceptable?
Feel free to check out PGC’s BBB rating.
