Removing Hard Water Build-Up On Granite Countertops…

From time to time, we get calls from customers inquiring about hard water deposits on their granite countertops. Hard water build up around faucets is fairly common, depending on your water of course. While hard water build-up happens over a period of time, it often leaves a white, scaly residue. Some customers mistakenly assume the residue is some sort of stain and therefore may call in a panic. Hard water residue can fortunately be removed with little effort, so put your mind at ease. To clean the hard water build up, you should use a razor blade. Tip the razor blade at a slight angle and scrape over the build up area. For any finer residue that remains,  rub over the area with a “000″ (or finer lot) of steel wool. This should do the trick. For more information, please refer to our Maintenance and Care instructions.

Granite Countertops—Spotlight On Top Star

In this blog, I wanted to focus on the granite color, Top Star, which is quarried in Brazil.

Top Star Granite

Top Star Granite is a beautiful stone that contains warm shades of gold, beige, cream, browns, and black and has been a good selling stone for us. Top star often contains areas of quartz and mica that gives it depth and and reflective qualities. Top Star does contain some movement in the overall pattern of the stone. Top Star would be an excellent choice for kitchen countertops, an island, bar top, or bathroom vanity. If you are attracted to warm tones, you might want to check out the color, Top Star.

Following is a photo of our current stock:

Tour Through The Shop…

In this blog, I thought I’d take you on a little tour of some things going on in our shop area lately. Our shop can be a busy place, with a lot of things going on from granite pieces being moved from one machine to another, or to various work stations.

For example, the picture below shows a vanity top being worked on.

The picture below shows another piece of Yellow Granite, which is in the process of being moved.

Dreaming Of An Onyx Kitchen…

While I wrote about onyx before, I wanted to share a few photos I snapped in our shop of a recent kitchen project we fabricated.

Lady Dream Onyx

Lady Dream Onyx

Onyx comes in a variety of colors and is often considered a gem stone. Although onyx has a unique look, it is one of those stones that is often quite stunning to the eye. Onyx is composed of cryptocrystalline quartz, that form unique bands that can run in a variety of different patterns. Onyx may be used for countertops, but care must be taken during the fabrication process, since it is considered a fragile stone. Care must also be taken for cleaning and maintenance to help prevent scratching.  Maintenance for onyx is similar to that of marble.
