Granite Accents…

In this blog, I wanted to share a few photos of some granite accents pieces we’ve fabricated and installed. While granite often makes its own statement, sometimes certain accents can add even more to a room, or a look you are trying to achieve. Curve pieces, bump-outs, and ledges are just a few options you can add when designing your countertops, or room.

Let’s take a look at some granite accents:

Post Bump-Outs (Louisa Blue Granite)

Granite ledge (Bianco Ramano Granite)

Curved Decorative Backsplash (Lady Dream/Golden Rock Granite)

Curve backsplash with Large Ogee edge (Paradiso Granite)

Granite Staircase Post (Creme de Ouro Granite)

Pillar Post Base (Mesabi Black Granite)

Granite Countertops—Spotlight On Geriba

In this blog, I wanted to spotlight the color, Geriba, which is quarried in Brazil.

Geriba Granite

Geriba is beautiful stone with warm shades of gold, brown, beige and taupe. It is one of those stones that has a lot going on, depending on the lot.  Geriba slabs often contain a swirling type pattern, and may contain large areas of quartz. If you like stones that contain a lot of variety and like warm tones, you might want to take a look at this color. Geriba would work great for a granite island, or kitchen countertops. It would also make a cool bar top, or fireplace surround. Please make sure you stop by our showroom to view our current stock.

Following is a photo of our current stock:

Recipe: Queso Blanco Dip

Here’s a good recipe to try, I found on Pinterest,  if you are one of those people that likes Mexican food. It is easy to make and works great for a party, or gathering with family and friends.

Queso Blanco

Yields: About 2 cups queso

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup white onion, finely diced
1 large jalapeno, seeds and stem removed; finely diced
12 oz white American cheese, shredded
4 oz Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded (don’t use pre-shredded)
1/2 to 1 cup cream, half-and-half, or whole milk
1 – 2 roma tomatoes, seeds removed and diced
1 small bunch cilantro, roughly chopped

Heat the oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Saute the onion and pepper until softened and reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in the shredded cheese and 1/4 cup of the cream. Quickly stir until the cheese is melted. Add the tomatoes, cilantro, and additional cream a little at a time until you reach desired consistency. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, tortillas, or on tacos, burritos, etc.

Enjoy!

Sealing Soapstone…

I know I just wrote about soapstone, but our installers took a couple photos at an install the other day, which I wanted to share. Soapstone slabs look lighter in appearance before they are installed. That’s because after installation, they are sealed with a mineral oil. The mineral oil is applied and left on the countertops to oxidize, which may take several days. Sealing with mineral oil is recommended every few weeks for the first year, to enhance the oxidation process after installation. The home owner is typically instructed on how to apply the mineral oil and performs the rest of the process themselves.

Here are a few photos of some soapstone with the first application of mineral oil:
