Today during one of our weekly sales meetings, one of our Sales Rep’s mentioned that one of our long standing repeat customers didn’t realize that we also sold quartz countertops, and thus went elsewhere for that. While this took me off guard, I have to admit that I wasn’t that surprised. While we initially started our business selling only granite countertops and continued that route for many years, we found that we had to adapt to the market and provide a variety of products to better serve our customers.

2010 Home and Garden Show A Success!

This years Home and Garden show proved to be a success. Consumers were eager to get out and take a look the latest products, and trends for 2010. With the economy starting to pick up, people seemed more optimistic, and many are ready to get going on some remodeling projects, including granite countertops. Traffic at this year’s show also seemed higher and steadier than last year.

The Minneapolis Home and Garden show was held at the Minneapolis Convention Center and ran February 24th through February 28th.

Kitchen Islands—An Integral Part Of Today’s Kitchens!

Many of today’s kitchens incorporate islands. That’s because they help improve function and efficiency and provide more of a workspace. According to “Ultra-Stylish, Ultra-Functional Kitchen Islands,” an article found on the Better Homes and Gardens website, when “outfitted with a sink, a cooktop, warming drawers, refrigerator drawers, or a dishwasher, an island makes food preparation and cleanup much more convenient and often more social.”

It is funny how families often gather in the kitchen. An island provides a nice spot for kids to do homework, or have an after school snack with friends, etc. Islands also work great for parties and family gatherings because they provide a nice serving area for food, as well as provide a space to socialize.

Whether you have an “L” shaped kitchen, or a “U” shaped kitchen, adding an island will help bring the workspace together and make it more functional. Optimism Seen In The Stone Industry!

For many people in the building industry, 2009 was a difficult year. For many stone fabricators, the story is the same. According to “Fabricators Predict Improvement For 2010,” an article, by Michael Reis, found in the January 6, 2010, issue of Stone World, “For the most part, fabricators feel that the worst is behind, and they are relatively optimistic for 2010 and beyond. These are the results of a survey conducted by the Market Research Department at BNP Media (Stone World’s parent company), and it polled a cross-section of fabricators across the U.S., including large and small firms, as well as relatively new and well-established companies.”

The fact that the economy is starting to improve and that people are starting to spend money again, are positive indicators for growth this year and beyond. Many homeowners who put off doing renovations, or improvements, are now ready to move ahead with their projects. With many kitchen and bathroom renovations, come granite countertops, or granite vanities, “Good News” for us fabricators!

According to the article, “The outlook of fabricators over the next five to 10 years was even more positive. According to the Stone World survey, more than four out of five fabricators (83%) feel that the market for stone in the U.S. will grow over the next five to 10 years.” This is great to hear and at PGC, we are preparing and gearing up for it.

Here’s to some much needed optimism for the stone industry and a great 2010!

Let’s Get Back On Track Again In 2010!

It is good to be back after a nice, long holiday break between Christmas and New Years. We were able to spend some quality time with family and friends. I also got in a little reading, while Chris did some ice fishing and snowmobiling in our frigid, wintery weather.

After a nice relaxing break, it is time to gear up for the new year. While 2009 was challenging for many in the remodeling and building industry, we are optimistic for 2010. We all have plenty to be thankful for and at PGC we are ready to get back on track again. We have some exciting things to look forward to, as we continue to make changes and improvements to better serve our customers and are looking forward to installing those beautiful granite countertops for you.

Fun For All At NARI Firm Night…

Fun was had by all at last nights NARI Firm night, held at Synergy Products in St. Louis Park, MN. While the snow put a damper on the drive, it did not prevent NARI members from showing up, although there were some complaints about the longer than normal drive.

The event included a toy drive for Toys for Tots, social hour and silent auction, and live band, which included music by the Belladiva’s.
