One of the most appealing features of granite is its natural beauty. It is one of those products that really sells itself. Many people are attracted to the product because of its beauty, durability, and low maintenance features. It is however, important when selling granite countertops to educate customers on the natural characteristics of stone. It is important to be able to differentiate between a natural product and a man-made product.
Man-made products, such as Corian®, CaesarStone®, or other engineered stones are generally consistent in color, and pattern. Granite, on the other hand, is a product of nature. The color may not always be consistent to that of a sample. It may be lighter, darker, or richer depending on which quarry it comes from, or even what part of a quarry it comes from.
Some granite tends to vary a great deal in flow pattern. A typical 4" x 4" sample will not capture the true look of some color selections. When a customer chooses a color with a great deal of flow or movement, it is best to let them know that the sample may not be a good depiction of the slab. It is always best to suggest that the customer view the slabs before the fabrication process begins. Granite is one the hardest materials available for countertops. There are a few colors however, that are more porous than others and require sealing more often.
Some granite colors may have natural markings like veining, or darker or lighter spots. While some people see these as part of granite’s beauty, others may not.
