Maintenance & Care

A frequently asked question by customers is, “How do I care for my granite countertops?” This question is really an easy one to answer since granite is a very low maintenance material.

Scratching and staining on granite surfaces is rare because of the hardness of the material. Most granite surfaces only require that they be cleaned with a soft white cloth, some hot water, and dish soap. A window cleaner may also be used, but may leave a film. A mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2) works well to remove streaks, or human oil.

To remove stubborn sticky materials, like glue, hardened drink mix, etc. use a razor-blade tipped at a slight angle from the horizontal to remove most of it. To get the final residue, use a “000” (or finer) steel wool. Use of dry cleansers and 3M Scotch-Brite™ is not recommended.

97% of granites require no sealer at all, but because a small percentage do, along with some other natural stones such as marble, slate, travertine, onyx, etc.; we seal everything before it leaves our facility.

We also sell "SCI" Stoneguard Sealer, if in the rare case, your stone should require a sealer in the future. Please follow the directions on the bottle. If you have any further questions pertaining to sealing, please give us a call. We’d be happy to answer them for you.
